HYDROCULTURE
|
|
Plants need six things in well-balanced proportions
for optimal growth: Hydro-culture is Greek and means working in the water . > The term hydroculture applies to all plant cultivation methods where the roots are embedded in a steady, inorganic and rot-proof substrate (NO SOIL) which uses a nutrient solution . HYDROTON is made out of shale. Ours originated approximately 150 million years ago, in an era geologically called "Lias". Ammonites - fossils found in the shale pits - are typical for this period. This special shale is extracted by open pit mining. It is carefully prepared, pulverized and formed into small round pellets which are fired in large rotating kilns at 1200° C - without adding any artificial or chemical agents. The organic substances inside the shale burn and cause the pellets to expand. At the same time the outer shell melts and sinters creating fine-pored balls. During production size, weight and quality are examined with much care. HYDROTON is consistent in appearance and quality.
WHY HYDROCULTURE ? WHY HYDROTON ? DRAINAGE AND AERATION OF SOILS, ROOF GARDENS, DECORATION HYDROTON is clean, completely odorless, chemically inert, ph-neutral and does not degrade. The clay has properties of high water storage and balanced capillary action which accelerate plant growth. HYDROTON
is also used to aerate heavy
soils and so provides plants with more oxygen. For hydroculture purposes simply
replace the soil by HYDROTON
or mix. GREENING THE CITY HYDROTON and
also ÖKOSTRAT ®
are becoming increasingly popular in
the field of roof gardening. Its unique water retention
capacity and porosity make it ideal for plants of every kind. |
